Our holidays end tomorrow.  We didn't go anywhere, other than Wetaskiwin to visit my father in law and Fort Saskatchewan for the big guy's eye surgery.

My father in law is back on antibiotics for another UTI.  Eventually his kidney function will decline to the point that he can no longer recieve the tobramycin or the bacteria will become resistant to it.  Who's to say which will happen first?

On the upside, my brother in law is here visiting and the big guy is smiling again.  They've been swapping stories about the last thirty years and ratting each other out about things they did as kids.  He can talk to his brother and that's what he needs, what they both need.  I'm thankful they have reconnected.

My foot is still sore, although nothing like it was, but still too sore to go back to work on the floor so I'm not sure what will happen at work.  It's been three months now and it make take another three to six months.  I see the podiatrist on Wednesday so she'll be able to give me some idea but I wonder if I'll make it back on the floor before I retire.  I guess time will tell.  Not sure how I feel about that, although I do plan on working casaul even after I retire.

The days just seem to slip away somehow.  It's wet and cool here and is supposed to stay cool all week.  It doesn't bother me like it would have when I was younger.  My plants are doing well, especially the newly planted maple tree, Big Red.  He's happy and growing well.

Jack woke up at 3am this morning.  He's got a bit of diarrhea, probably from drinking the damn pool water.  We have a little inflatable pool and he drinks water out of, despite repeated warnings not to.  He likes to fill up his water guns in the pool and then drinks out of the water guns.  I'm sure it's good for his immune system but not so much for his intestinal system:)  He's sleeping now after a bitchy morning, both Nana and Jack were bitchy and tired.

Me on Monday when I go back to work and have to make phone calls for six hours.

  1. It does seem like a shame to waste a nurse with your skills on making phone calls. Not that that doesn't require some skills too, of course. I wonder why we haven't worked around this issue? Mobility scooters? Something that would save your foot from being further injured.

    1. I would love to have a scooter at work but I might be a risk to others:)

  2. There's only that far you can push yourself, but you know that. I found it really hard to step back from being this energetic full time person and missed that feeling of "look how many tasks I can juggle" despite the endless moaning coming from my body.
Give yourself time, you'll get there.

    1. I survived another day of making phone calls, yay. Now I'm relaxing at home, alone. The big guy has gone to visit his father and I have only the dogs for company.

  3. If you don't listen to your foot it will never heal. Take it from experience. If you treat it kindly you will get back on the floor - maybe fewer shifts - but you will get back.
Glad the Big Guy and his brother reconnected. Family is so important as we get older and lose bits of them.

    1. I'm trying to be patient with my foot and it does feel better, but connective tissue takes so long to heal. I'm an impatient cow.

  4. That would be frustrating to not be able to physically do the job that means so much to you and that helps others. But if you rush your return to floor work, you could make it worse which affects both your professional and personal lives. No easy answers. My grandson loves drinking water out of where he's not supposed to. It's only a matter of time before it hits his intestines also. :(

    1. Jack's tummy is better now but it sure gave him a hard time. I'm going to leave the pool empty for now and just have a bucket of clean water for him for now.

  5. It's great that your husband and his brother are having a chance to catch up, even under these circumstances. I hope the foot continues to improve. That's a funny meme!

  6. Is "Big Red" named after Red in Red Deer? He is the creative force behind Hiawatha House. Do you think your foot issue is in fact a work injury - caused by all those years rushing about on hospital floors?

    1. No, Big Red is not named after Red in Red Deer:)

Big red will be red in the fall and is already about 12-15 feet tall. My foot is just getting old like the rest of me. What was once easy, has become more difficult.

  7. Oh my, Jack drinking the pool water had me rolling, since, no telling what other things kids do in the pool and their little immune systems have to become strong enuf to deal with, huh? *LMAO* Sorry it gave him the trots, that's never Fun at any Age or why you get them. The Daughter whose here from Mexico is having readjustment to an American diet... well, in eating rather than being in Starvation mode like she has been the 15 Years she's been South of the Border enduring 3rd World Problems. Here our 1st World Problems seem to pale by comparison and it puts things in perspective for me when she shares the hardships the Family in Mexico endure daily and yet remain happy and mostly healthy in spite of.
