I'll be missing in action for a little while.  We have to get our rental ready for sale.  The young lady moved out and left a mess, not all of it hers, some of it was from four years ago when Gracie walked away from all of her shit.

We had a company come and haul away 7 loads of garbage and furniture for a cost of $4000.  I know.  The place is still filthy, including cat pee and poop back from when Gracie lived there.  Apparently her cats pulled the insulation off the walls in the crawl space and peed and pooped all over it.  It will take more money to clean the place up.

I'm in the yard cutting back loads of growth from the last eight years, that ones on me, or us.  We should have kept up with it but didn't.  It's often easier to just close your eyes and pretend everything is fine.

So I'm cleaning up the yard which will be at the very least one more load to the dump.  I came home because I need my chainsaw:)

  1. Oh gosh, the photo and your description of the place overwhelms me, and I am not even there. I don't envy you in the least. Good luck with it all.

    1. Turns out I'm still here. I worked all day yesterday in the garden and I'm way too stiff and sore to do much today. Took the dogs for a long, slow walk.

    2. The neighbor stopped by yesterday while I was working in the yard and told me his son is very handy and might want to buy the place.

    1. The junk removers did an awesome job. I have a cleaning crew coming in sometime in the next week, and I'm working on the yard. Should be ok, just overwhelmed me when I first saw it.

    1. It's ok. I thought it would be more work than it is. The junk removers were amazing. Cleaning crew booked.

    1. Gracie won't take any responsibility for the mess, which does irk me.

  6. What's too bad is that people can walk away from this kind of thing and leave the costs to someone else, with no consequences to themselves, not even a crap credit rating. We saw that in municipal administration all too often; buy property, don't pay your taxes, walk away and leave buildings in a shambles. Hissable.

    1. The last woman that lived there, is willing to pay for some of it, her portion. Gracie, not at all.

    1. I'm so stiff and sore from cutting small trees and branches yesterday. I think I have two more loads for the dump, just of tree cuttings. But I do love my chainsaw:)

  9. I love a woman with a chain saw. I've never had one, although I did use a jack hammer to make holes to plant in AZ. That's unfortunate that the cats pooped and peed everywhere.

    1. I would highly recommend every woman get a chainsaw. It's small and battery operated but very empowering:)

  10. Well damn! That's a nightmare for sure. What a mess, best of luck to you getting that sorted.

  11. I'm so sorry you're dealing with that; it looks and sounds AWFUL. But then the place will be gone and you will never have to deal with it again.

    1. It's going much better than expected. I felt bad, but sent everything to the dump. I could not sort. I didn't have the bandwidth. I told Gracie what was going on, to give her a chance to get some of her stuff (photos, blankets, tchotchkes, etc.), nothing.

  13. I will never understand people who leave rentals in that condition. I've always left rentals spotless but then I guess some people have no shame. That being said, I almost wouldn't mind attacking that hoard, as long as I had plenty of time to do it. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Good luck - and I hope it gets taken off your hands quickly!

    1. I can't imagine it either. I once rented an apartment which was dirty when I moved in, I left it cleaner than when I had moved in and the landlord withheld my damage deposit. I took them to small claims, they never showed up and I got my money back. Apparently they were known for doing that.
You would have probably found lots of decent stuff but I did not have the bandwidth to sort through everything.

  19. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to hire a big skip? (Canada probably calls a "skip" a "dumpster" just like those nice folk south of the border.)

    1. It was a big skip and it had to be emptied seven times.
