It's been a rough week.  Jack has been sick off and on, sleeping in my bed off and on (loosely translated as lots of coughing, kicking, and general tossing and turning).  Jack visited his grandma and mom yesterday; they took him to see Disney on ice, even with a fever and a cough.  He had a good time while there, but wouldn't eat when he came home and then vomited.  If I had said no, I would have been the bad guy, again.

I took Katie to Southgate Mall on Sunday and they had a light installation there.  Overall it was too crowded and noisy for her but they did have some massive, handpainted, ornaments that were beautiful.  I'll go back with Jack before Christmas.  He likes lights and he can visit Santa as well.  Katie saw Santa walking through the mall, going to work, and she LOVED it!  She even got a hug from Santa and I told him how much it meant to her.  He's a very kind man.

It snowed a lot over the weekend, 19 cm, and winter is definitely here.  The temperature dropped too and now the cat won't go outside, she's been complaining about it, a lot.  It's too cold for Charlie's feet to spend more than a few minutes outside.  Heidi is made of tougher stuff and will sit out on the deck for awhile.

And me?  I'm just tired, between work on Friday, depression (which is lifting), and Jack keeping me awake half the night.  I made some Christmas cookies yesterday and will make more today, with Jack's help (god help me).

I'm also becoming much less willing to put up with patriarchy and general bullshit.  A bunch of entitled white men (because they're white and male) bitching and complaining about how hard they have it.

  1. The meme is great and I too am sick of white men making the rules and taking our rights and power away. (or trying to!) Hope Jack is better soon; sick kids are draining and worrisome. How sweet to get a hug from Santa!

    1. I know there are good men in the world, but there are a lot of entitled men who don't even realize they are.

    2. They don't even realize it. You've hit the nail on the head there. -Kate

  3. I think women here might be more inclined to kick back against entitled white men. It is really hard to imagine women here voting for someone like #45/7. Mind, it is hard to imagine most men voting for him either.

    1. It boggles the mind that anyone would vote for him.

  4. White men complaining about how they're being victimized by DEI initiatives just make me want to do something untoward. I'm just sick of it and them. There are good men, but I'm beginning to think the bad ones out number them.

    1. There are good men but there are a lot of men who are used to women doing everything for them, and who wants to give that up?

  5. You are dealing with a lot, too much. I hope you can get some sleep and the burden lightens. ❤️

  6. When I remember my child up to maybe age 8 in winter, I see vivid images of wiping snot from her nose, getting her to take a spoon full of cough juice and all that endless, endless struggle getting her to sleep with a stuffy nose. I feel for you. It will get better, that boy is growing up with empathy and care from you, that counts.

    1. Jack, like most kids, gets a lot of colds. He passes them all along to his poppa too:)

  7. Wow 19 cm of snow!!!! The snow we got the other day had pretty much gone by the next day, except in the mountains, of course, where they need and want it! Love that last picture of the patriarchy. Made me laugh!

  8. This is not an easy time of life nor an easy time of year. But when is it? I'm sorry. You are taking care of so many people. Try to find a little time to take care of yourself, too.

    1. I'm feeling better. I worked all day and I'm exhausted right now but I walked away from Jack when he was busy yanking my chain. I told him that we're both tired and grumpy and that's okay.

  9. You retired ... Do you really have to work at all? It seems your home life is work enough!
I think if Jack had a fever and temperature, then he should have been kept home with you and not off to an ice show ... You certainly have the right to say NO!

    1. I still like my job but it is getting harder to do. I also needed money to pay the special assessment on my condo. Jack's other side of the family don't pay as much attention to his needs and what he wants. It's what they want.

  10. I, too, like the meme. Somehow the mindset you are talking about has firmly taken hold my my country, your neighbor. I'm still in a state of shock.

    1. I have become more outspoken lately about crap, including patriarchy and the space men take up in the world.

  11. Even I'M sick of white men! When are we going to elect a woman president? Honestly.

Too bad about Jack coming home sick but at least he enjoyed the Disney show. My mom used to grumble when my dad would take me and my brother somewhere, and then we'd come home and get ill. She's say, "Well, HE got to have fun with you, and now I have to clean up after you!"
