I saw the podiatrist yesterday and I'm now off until at least March 1st at the earlist.  She again said that it just takes a long time to heal.  She also told me that the tear is 4cm long which seems long to me.

My appointment was in the West End of Edmonton so I stopped and had lunch with a friend.  She has cancer and her husband died last February.  We've known each other since our girls were little and I love her like a sister.  We talked and talked and talked.  It was lovely.  Her mother in law died not long ago and she shipped her son off to rehab in Victoria last week.  She's been through so much and we lean on each other, both of us understanding how fucked up families can be, despite our best efforts.  She also had a new kitten who was so sweet and tiny.  I found her sitting inside my purse, the kitten, not my friend.

I feel like crap today.  My vertigo has returned and everytime I bend my head down even a little, the whole world tilts and spins.  It's nauseating but will pass.

I'm almost done the second quilt I made from the rescued quilt I found at a thrift store.  I learned a lot while I was making it and made more than a few mistakes but as I tell Jack, that's how we learn.  Now I just have to accept that I will always make mistakes.  Jack's not the only one who struggles with making mistakes.

Big red is living up to his/her name and has finally started to turn colour.  He/she has done well this past summer and I think they'll live through the winter just fine, fingers crossed.

Jack is doing well with his potty training, finally.  The stickers and treats have worked well but he's moving past that and is deeply impressed with his ability to pee and poop on the potty.  Yesterday he pooped on the potty and made me and poppa come and look at it.  He was very proud.  Perhaps I need to take more pride in my ability to poop on the toilet as well:)

  1. That kitten! So cute. The quilt looks SO much like one my mother made for my daughter in the early 1970s. And Jack, well - what a doll he is.

    1. My mum did a lot of embroidery like that as well in the early seventies, must have been a trend. I'm glad I rescued the quilt.

  2. Congratulations to Jack for a pooping well done. The quilt is beyond adorable, I'm glad you're taking the time to rehabilitate it.

    1. He continues to be impressed with his toileting abilities. I'm so thankful that he's finally getting it and not fighting it.

  3. When my kids were being potty trained we almost had to hire a marching band, so well done Jack! And please take advantage of that sick leave to try to get some rest. You've had a rough go of it!

    1. When I was toilet training Katie, there was a lot of clapping. People in public bathrooms must have wondered what was going on.

  4. Vertigo is no fun. The world pretty much stops when you can't tell up from down.

It is lovely to have someone that understands. My best gal friend had a daughter with severe mental illness when I was going through that with my then husband. We could laugh and cry with an understanding that would dumfound others. Sweet relief.

    1. A deep understanding of the shit someone else is going through helps so much, especially the laughing at dark shit.

  5. It sounds like a wonderful lunch out with an understanding friend. Getting together with like-minded people can be comforting; everyone has messed up situations in their lives but sometimes that's hard to see from the outside. Vertigo, ugh! I had it once and never want it back again. It was terrifying and nauseating. Good for Jack! Niko has had moments of interest and gone potty on the toilet but nothing that lasts. He's 2 1/2 so probably in the next 6 months or so he'll make more of a push. (or his parents will)

    1. I've had vertigo since I was a teen. It comes and goes but I haven't had it for a few years now which was very nice. The longest it ever lasted was a month but it's already a bit better this morning.
It's wonderful to have a friend that gets it. Her son has been a drug addict since he was thirteen years old. It's been awful for her and she is still such a positive person.

  7. Your friend has been through a lot. You a blessed to have one another. I'm glad to know it was the kitten and not your friend in the purse! Pride of accomplishment, Jack has it. :)

    1. Yeah, I suck at resting but it seems the universe is bound and determined to make me.

  9. I was just thinking yesterday about how August used to sing out, "All done pooping!" when he was ready to have his butt wiped. Of course Levon took up the habit. August can wipe his own butt now but Levon still likes help and alerts us to service with that same song.
Wow. It is a very long time until March. But- yeah. Going back to work would only make things so much worse. Definitely not worth that.
    That quilt is precious.

  10. What a gorgeous kitten.
I will applaud your efforts on the toilet, Pixie.
Are you still doing the grief counselling for nurses? Or does that have to wait until you're back at work?

    1. Thank you. When I pooped on the potty this morning, I thought it heard some applause:)
I'm still working on a presentation about grief. It's been much harder than I thought to make it not sound clinical. Grief is personal and I don't want to treat it like everything else gets treated in medicine. I want the presentation to be a way in for people, a way for people to be able to look at their grief, not as a bad thing but as something human and normal and even wonderful if that makes any sense.

  11. Oh, my ... that kitten is so beautiful! Look at that face!
I am so past potty training with babies ... now it's me -- sneeze or cough and pee! Geez! Cussing all the way to the bathroom!
Hopefully having the time off will be what you need to fix your feet!

    1. Kittens are so sweet. They trick you into getting one and then they grow up into a grumpy old cat that likes to mess with your blinds and eat your plants.

  12. I must confess that I did a brilliant poop the other day. It was like a wok of art and a warm, earthy colour. Strangely, Shirley refused to come and look at it when I called her. Is that a maple leaf?

    1. That is a maple leaf. I planted a maple tree in May and it has done well.
Well done pooping in the potty Mr. Pudding. I'm sure Shirley is relieved that you poop in the potty, even if she refuses to look at it.

  13. Your quilts and photography are so gorgeous -- but I'm sorry that this foot thing is taking so long to heal. I have to believe, though, that in the end it'll be good for you to rest.

  14. Thanks Elizabeth. I'm finishing up a lot of half finished projects and starting new ones. I'm doing a cross stitch Christmas stocking for Jack which makes me realize how much my eyes have deteriorated since I last did cross stitch thirty years ago.
