We now have permanent guardianship of Jack, along with his other Grandma and his aunt.  No matter what happens, he will be safe.  I am thankful.

  1. Ahhhh, what a relief. I am grateful on behalf of that beautiful little boy that he has people who know what unconditional love is. A round of hugs for a system that is working for him.

  2. Oh my, that is wonderful. And yet so sad that it was necessary. He is certainly loved.

  3. Wow! That decision will make all the difference in the world to Jack. He is thriving under the care of those who can truly love him and take care of him, giving him the safety and security that a young boy needs. Love this photo of Jack!

  5. Hang on Pixie! He is wandering out into an ice cold Canadian pond in his wellington boots. I don't call that "safe"! No way!

  13. Hello: I have read your blog for some months now, and am so glad that little Jack is safely in your guardianship. How does it work, sharing guardianship with his other grandparents and his aunt? Who makes important decisions - e.g. medical care, travel, signing school permission slips? What if you disagree among yourselves?
I wish your new family all the best and it is so wonderful that you are making this hugely positive change in Jack's life.

    1. I don't know how it's going to work out to be honest but we now have rights which we didn't have before. I can take him to a doctor, he's never been to a doctor. I can sign as a parent for permission slips.

I really don't think Gracie will be able to stay sober so at least Jack has a tribe now who can legally care for him.
