I described myself on Steve Reed's blog as tired, bitchy granny on the prairies and then thought to myself, that sucks. I looked back at my blog posts over the last three or four months and they are tired and bitchy and I don't want to be that. I do get tired and I do get bitchy but what? I don't want to be bitchy all the time. I don't want to be tired all the time. I'm happy with the granny bit though:)
Jack came back to us on Thursday and he was happy to be home. He took all of his toys out, named each one and put them on the coffee table. I missed his mess so much. I also missed making things with his lego.
I'll skip over the crap and say that yesterday we took him to his swimming lesson. He's young enough that an adult has to be with him so I put on a bathing suit and went into the pool with him. It was so much fun. I haven't been around little kids in the water for years and it's wonderful. Their joy and ability to play is infectious.
After swimming, while we were changing in the change room he quizzed me on body parts. Not at all awkward but it was truthful. I'm guessing Gracie will hear about pubic hair and tattoos. Then he locked me out of the change room when I to get his socks and boots out of the locker. Fortunately he unlocked the door quickly, but he did think it was terribly funny.
We dropped him off at his grandma's at supper time and the big guy and I went out for supper at our favorite Italian restaurant which was nice. We don't get much time to ourselves and it was good for us. Then I slept for ten hours straight last night.
This morning I found a blogger who shares my sense of humor.
We're off shortly to pick up Miss Katie for lunch and I made an appointment for her to get a haircut as well. I balked at the price, $60, but then realized that she can well afford it. If she has too much money in her bank account the government will cut her off. Right now her bank account looks like she's saving up to make a down payment on a house. She doesn't really care about things and has all that she wants so I guess a good haircut is not unreasonable.
This afternoon I'll take the dogs out for a good walk as the weather is so warm right now, although I just saw that rain is forecast again. WTF, when did rain in Alberta winters become a normal thing?
I don't do too much bitching on my blog anymore (except about the dishes) -- you should've seen my blog in the earliest days before I realized how easily I could be identified -- but goodness my readers enjoyed the train-wreck potential at the time! And I admit that while I don't relish (for your sake) witnessing the hard times you've been having, I also know how good it feels to be "heard" and applaud your willingness to tell it like it is. Yours are the best kind of blog -- personal and raw, frequent and honest. Your life as it is. Not always easy, sometimes hard, definitely true. xoxoxo Kate
ReplyDeleteThat picture of the Big Guy and his Little Guy is perfectly perfect.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we are just bitchy and I think it's good to be reminded that it's not just us. Of course no one wants to hear constant complaining but you have certainly had reason to need to express yourself.
I hope that your Sunday with Katie is good.
Well, sometimes being able to be tired and bitch about sh*t on the blog makes it possible to be less so in life. This is your safe space. We can take it. Besides, I don't find you bitchy at all. Just a granny doing her level loving best. No judgment here. Carry on.
ReplyDeleteThat picture with the big guy is just lovely isn't it. And I hope you have a lovely time with Miss Katie - I'm sure she will!
ReplyDeleteI do not find your blog bitchy or whiny at all. You are making a record of the events in your lives. And that is one of the main reasons to have a blog, it is a record of your life. This has been a difficult period for you, Jack and your husband, you are entitled to vent. It is no doubt therapeutic. I look forward to your posts. All the best to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI see that The Big Guy has got his teddy bear with him on the sofa. Glad you enjoyed the swimming session.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful picture♥
ReplyDeleteWTF indeed! I moan and whine all the time on my blog. So what.
ReplyDeleteIn real life I am well behaved.
I love that lego mess.
Such a wonderful photo of the two guys! I think my grandson should have swimming lessons; he loves the water. Rain in the winter, not snow? I do some bitching on my blog, hopefully not too much. It does help to vent sometimes--part of why I enjoy blogging. I hope Katie's hair turns out well! It feels wonderful to get a fresh and lovely haircut.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sad tho' that the Govt. would cut Miss Katie off just for being responsible and frugal with her money!? Jack possibly now regaling a story about Pubic Hair and Tattoos made me Laugh out Loud. I'm glad he's taking the Swim Lessons so he'll be much safer in the Water and build the confidence to enjoy the activity without fear. I too feel Bitchy a lot lately and I don't want to be that person either, perpetually Bitchy or Negative, but lets face it, there's a lot of Negativity out there and reacting to it all just is rough to find much that is Positive about. And that Meme is hilarious, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'd describe you as a loving compassionate woman on the prairies who faces one challenge after another with fierce grace when needed, takes beautiful photographs of beloved people and places, and shows a splendid sense of humor (-:
ReplyDeleteI really like the picture of Jack and the big guy sleeping. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteHi Pixie. I came here from our comment on my blog and while I do not take commissions, I am always happy to do a pet portrait of a dog that looks ridiculously fun to paint. On Jan 15 you posted a photo of your dear one, and I loved the pose -- with her looking up and into the distance with those beautiful soulful eyes. By any chance, do you have an un-cropped version of it? The left (her right) ear is out of frame and I can't do a portrait if I don't have both ears. If you don't have a 2-earred version of that photo, maybe you have others that have the same spirit that you might want to send me? I'd be very happy to try to capture her in watercolor for you.

Sorry -- I forgot to give you my email: vivianswift at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteOh, color me cranky on so many fronts. It's hard not to be, given personal and global events. Love the picture of the two men sleeping on the couch, it's just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIs it rain in lieu of snow?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your writing on my blog gave you inspiration for some self-reflection, but be gentle on yourself! You've had a lot going on! I'd be "bitchy" too!
I'm glad Jack is back with you and reconnecting with both of you and all his toys.
Oh, I see Vivian is in touch with you! :)
