We had some snow on the weekend, just enough to make everything pretty again.  The coversyl has been making me so tired, I've started lying down in the afternoon.  I don't fall asleep, just rest with my eyes closed.  It helps me feel a lot better and I can make it through to bedtime.  Colour me unimpressed.  I suppose on the upside, decreased risk of stroke due to hypertension, so yay.

Six weeks ago, in a fit of wanting to jazz up my wardrobe, I succumbed to online advertising and ordered a colourful linen shirt and a knitted cardigan.  They arrived yesterday.

The shirt is polyester and spandex (not linen), as is the cardigan.  The cardigan is especially hideous and not even close to what is advertised.  It seemed like a reputable site, based in Vancouver.  Ivy & Claire Vancouver is nothing but a lie.  There is no store.  There is no Ivy or Claire.  It's a scam run out of China and I'm kicking myself for buying something on the internet.  I've started the return process which I'm sure is just more bullshit.  In the meantime, my makeover will have to wait:)

I'll survive.  I always tell Jack that we learn through our mistakes, so I've just learned not to trust clothes shopping on the internet.  I will return to the mall to look for a colourful, linen shirt for summer.

It's spring break here this week and I just dropped Jack off for his first camp.  He was nervous, which surprised me, but I realize it's the first time he's gone to a camp, or someplace, where he doesn't know anybody.  By the time I left he was talking some boy's ear off, so I'm sure he'll be fine.  If not, they'll call me and I will go and pick him up.

I asked the other guardians and Jack's parents for some money to pay for camps and lessons.  Grandma says she has no money, aunt and mom never replied, and my son said he would give me some money when he returned Jack's basketball hoop.  Nothing new or surprising here.

I took Katie out for lunch yesterday and she was relatively good.  She did get somewhat agitated so I gave her an ativan, more for my peace of mind.  I couldn't handle the thought of her attacking someone else in the mall, or pushing her wheelchair through the mall with her screaming, crying, and pulling my hair like last time.  Everything turned out ok.

Katie is having her period though, which means ovulation will be in a week or two.  I hope she doesn't have any pain or cysts, but if she does I am prepared with medications.

Spring is struggling to get a foothold here.  I'm hoping she'll succeed sooner rather than later.  Mother nature works at her own speed though.

  1. That was such a disappointing buy. It's so hard to tell what's genuine online unless it's an established company. Even then it's dodgy. I ordered flannel pjs from the Vermont Country Store a while back. It used to be reliable and nice quality. I followed the instructions to wash them in cold water before wearing. They shrank to where I literally couldn't get in and one legseam completely fell apart. Then they hammered me with emails when I asked for a refund. Many refusals and dodging despite pictures, till I said I'd take them to small claims court and report them to their state authority. Finally they refunded. and they still send a lovely catalog regularly. So I have not gone near them again. Clearly not the same management I used to know.

    1. I won't be ordering online again. Lesson learned:)

  2. I can't shop online for clothes because I need to actually see something on me to know whether it fits or looks good. Plus I just don't need the hassle of returning stuff, even assuming the refund is easily forthcoming. Let alone the double hassle of when the company is not reputable. The only exception to this are t-shirts because there I wear a standard size.

    1. I don't want to buy online, but I found a linen shirt that I really liked. Oh well. Maybe I'll try WEM. LOL.

You're not alone. I once used my credit card to purchase a parka from Canada Goose after seeing a sale offered on FB. A day later I contacted them to change the size et voila, discovered it was a scam. The credit card company covered for my mistake, and I learned a lesson: buy local and buy in person whenever possible. -Kate

    1. The problem is, they did send me clothes, just nothing like the photos.

    2. I fell for a similar thing for bread storage bags; thought I had really done the research on the company. I'd say 99% of the clothing ads on FB are semi-fake If not totally. It is really frustrating because often the stuff looks really good!

  4. That is a shame about the tops. If that print had truly been linen it would have been terrific! I've made this mistake buying shirts online. I've pretty much decided I'm never doing it again!

    1. I learned my lesson. If the shirt had been linen as advertised, I would have loved it.

  5. I shop online but only at verified sites. I have not had a problem. I'm sure Jack will have a good time with all the kids around. That last bit made me laugh. A good thing I wasn't drinking anything at the time!

  6. A few months ago, I was inundated with ads for supposedly little boutiques in the southern cities of the US with absolutely gorgeous clothes. Then I was struck by the similarities of the wording in each of them. Each was just a variation of the next, a recently widowed woman, or someone alone for other reasons who decided to strike out into the retail world. I started researching the cities and the locations of the shops and found NOTHING!! All a big scam. What a shame - those clothes were awesome.

  7. Those fake stores are the worst. I hope Jack enjoys camp, I am sorry no one had the ability to support financially :( a shame. I buy a lot 2nd hand now, maybe your makeover will happen via Facebook Marketplace!

  10. The one who did it! :) My murderous rage is directed at one person and those who toady to him; otherwise I'm quite calm and peaceful. I'm glad you asked about money for Jack's activities; they need to know that it costs money for those things. Even if they don't pay, perhaps they'll feel a smidgen of guilt? I've been burned on clothes on the internet too--not exercise clothes or shoes but dressier ones. I had to eat quite a lot of money for a mother of the bride dress I ordered from a shady company. It looked so beautiful in the photos!

  11. I got Scammed once too on an Internet Purchase that I should have known was suspect. Oddly they corresponded with me for literally Months about my Purchase so I kept hoping it was legit, it wasn't, and it was only Forty Bucks thank goodness, and I reported them.

  12. That's too bad the shirt is not good fabric. I like the print a lot. Doesn't grand mama travel quite a lot? I bet she's got some money.

  15. I have mixed luck with online (probably Chinese) clothing. I've had a couple of tops that have been great but then the latest couple of dresses I can't get over my head. They don't put zips in the bloody things so everything gets stuck at my chest!!!! I'm going to give them to sewing club to see if anyone can use the fabric as it's not worth trying to send them back. I'm glad Jack's making friends at camp already (even if his other family don't chip in). It'll give you a break and allow him to run off some energy!

    1. Yes, the shipping is quite expensive, they won't pay it, and if it doesn't show up, they won't refund the money. I have a funny feeling that no returns ever show up, regardless of whether or not they actually do show up.

  16. There are so many scammers out there. Just the other day I got a text from the city saying I owed money for a parking violation and that I needed to appear in court. I noticed the court day was the next day. At first I started to worry thinking that my summons got lost in the mail. The phone number listed to call was on the text so I decided to just call to see what it was. The minute someone answered, I knew it was a scam and deleted the text. The next day the city's government website put out something saying that there was a massive scamming text going around and they posted a photo of the summons. It was exactly the same one I got.

    1. I got scammed years ago in France as my daughter and I got off the train from England. It irritates me that other people can steal my money and they don't have a problem with it, and they will get away with it.

  17. Wonder how long it will be before everyone just assumes everything they see online/via text/etc is a scam and we all go back to in-person dealings in brick-and-mortar establishments?

  18. I've ordered clothing that turned out to be disasters a few times. Scammers suck. But not as much as Jack's people who won't help you pay for summer camps. They are worthless.

  19. I agree with Colette about Jack's other family. They suck.
I'm glad Katie had a better day.
