i met up with some friends yesterday morning at the greenhouse.  tons of orchids, tropicals, succulents, and seeds.  we also met a man wearing a python and talked to him for a bit.  i got to pet the snake but declined having him on my shoulders, the snake, not the man.  my friend however did have the python, his name is pretzel, on her shoulders. it amazes me how muscular they are, the snakes, not the owners. pretzel is a rescue and bless people who rescue snakes.

i bought some seeds for blue asters and black eyed susan's.  i'm about to plant my tomato seeds, as well as other seeds i harvested last fall.  hopefully the cat stays out of them this year and my husband fixed my grow light stand for me.  now i just need some counter space.

yesterday i took jack and heidi for a walk among the trees.  even with my ice cleats on, i managed to slip and fall.  i thought i had broken my thumb but i think it's a sprain.  hurts like hell if i move it.  this morning my arm, leg and knee also hurt.  yay.  seven falls in seven months.  wtf.

otherwise, not much going on.  i want to finish painting the bathroom today.  i'll see if that's possible with a sprained thumb.  i'm thankful it's my left hand.  and the sun is shining.

  1. Snakes are powerful. And when I've touched them I've found they feel quite different from what I expected, cool and dry.
Sorry about all the falling, especially today's thumb, no joke. Are you sure about painting the bathroom today??

    1. they are cool and dry. the owner was very knowledgeable and i learned that snakes have a cloaca, same as birds. i've done some painting, but some will have to wait. the business part of the room is finished though.

  2. Sounds like a nasty fall. I hope it hasn't done any worse damage. As for snakes, well, my position is "just say no."

    1. just say no :) i didn't mind touching it but didn't want a python, even a small python on my neck. my friend is braver.

  3. Sorry about the fall. Your opening paragraph is hilarious...plus now I think all "pets" should be named Pretzel.

    2. Leif Bersweden's The Orchid Hunter (paperback 2017) is the book
I'd take on a quest to find Britain's 52 species of wild orchids.
The author studied biology at Oxford University and works at
Kew Gardens, one of London's treasures.

    1. it was the ice and slushy snow together that did it. sigh.

  6. Ice is SO awful yet staying inside too much is mind-numbing and depressing. Pretzel is a great name for a snake. I like them but would never want one as a pet. Are they affectionate? Of course you wouldn't want too many hugs from them. LOL I'm an orchid killer!

    1. i usually kill orchids too, but i do drag out their deaths to the bitter end.
it was a lovely warm day yesterday but there was ice, snow, and water, apparently more slippery than just ice or snow.

  8. Damn. I know I have to be careful, even with the cleats on, but still ... that's just not fair, am I right? -Kate

    2. This is a hard life lesson isnt it -- even when we're doing what we're supposed to, shit still happens. I think it was in an episode of CSI once that the lead investigator said something like "Nobody ever expects to get murdered." Crike-ees.
