We finally got some rain and I could almost hear the earth sigh with gratitude.  Sadly, the temperature dropped, a lot, and it's not so pleasant outside.

I bought some petunias, and other flowers to plant this weekend.  I'd never seen this kind of petunia before.  I can't remember the name of them, but they came about because of growers trying to develop a green petunia.  I quite like the green edges.

The oak trees are leafing out, they are always late to the party.  I'm not sure what kind of oak they are, but I bury their acorns in the fall, in the hopes that more will grow.  The spruce seedlings that I transplanted along the back pathway have all survived and hopefully, one day will be huge trees.  Not in my lifetime, but one day.

I walked the dogs yesterday and all of the mayday, crabapple, and chokecherry trees are blooming.  The scent was so strong that it eventually hurt my nose.  Ridiculous, I know.

Very little going on in my life.  Jack is doing relatively well, eating well, sleeping well, and generally easy to get along with.  I'm sure that will change, but we're enjoying it.  He's loving his swim lessons and he also loves singing (I am not a singer but his mama has a beautiful voice), so I'll look for singing lessons for him in the fall.  He still struggles with school, but we'll see if the biphentin helps.

We're taking Jack to Jasper next month for four nights which will be a nice break.  There is a pool at the hotel, which he'll love.  We'll spend lots of time outdoors which is good for all of us.  My pottery instructor ( a lovely young woman) is going to animal and house sit for us, so no dogs to worry about either.

Katie is doing well on her new med.  Nothing bad happened this week, so far:)  Whose life is this?

  1. I am glad to read that nothing bad has happened this week. Hopefully it continues! It is always a worry for me leaving my dog when we go away. Ironically today I found someone to watch Shirley when we go away for a week in September.

    1. I don't like leaving our dogs either but I trust this young woman, and she has two huskies of her own.

  2. Flowers have become so expensive, I harvest all my seeds and grow my own. Petunias are particularly easy. I have never seen the green edged variety either, but they do look interesting!

    1. I'll have to try petunias next spring, and yes, flowers have gotten so expensive this year.

  3. You dare to plant your petunias out this weekend? Braver than me. Maybe cities are a couple degrees warmer. Out here I won't be surprised if it snows. For sure we'll at least get more frosts. Petunias are tough -- but not THAT tough! Keep your blankets handy.

    1. You jinxed me:) We had frost last night so I had to cover my plants outside. Hopefully, that will be the last frost. You guys have later frosts than we do, not sure why but I'm sure there is an explanation.

Jasper will be lovely for a break.
I've already sent the deck pic to someone.

  6. Love the deck meme. When we moved into this house, there was a card on the refrigerator from a local guy who did lawn care. It said, "I mow your grass, I trim your bush." Swear to god. We hired him. He was a hoot. Very young.
Sounds like a GREAT week! I wish they could all be like that.

  9. Sometimes "nothing bad happened" is the ultimate positive. You and I know this, my friend. We're getting much needed rain too and cooler temperatures; I kind of like it. That petunia is gorgeous! My hardware store didn't have the best selection this year but perhaps I'll continue looking around elsewhere although I don't have much room in my flowerbeds. Yay for Katie's new med!

    1. I remember when my kids were little and all I had to be thankful for was not yelling at the kids that day. I like the petunia, it's different looking and I'm fond of different shades of green.

  10. What on earth would be the point of a green petunia? LOL!

Having said that, I do like yours with the green edges.

I laughed at the "deck pic."

    1. Apparently they were breeding bio luminescent petunias that are green, not sure if these petunias were a byproduct of those.
Have you seen the Blue Collar Tour bit about decks? Too funny.
