Still life with a five year old.  My counter always has toys on it, waiting to be put away.

It's Thanksgiving here this weekend.  I made a pumpkin pie out of the pumpkin I grew this summer.  Way too much work.  Next year I'll just buy a can of pumpkin:)

My walk with Charlie this morning.  The wind blew all night and lots of the trees are bare now.

I had my covid and flu vaccinations on Friday while I was at work.  I've felt kind of crappy all weekend.  Yay.  At least it's only the vaccinations and not the diseases.  Katie was not impressed with me though.  I did not meet expectations.

On the upside, I spoke to my middle daughter last night for an hour on the phone.  That always makes me feel good.

  1. I think when you eat the pie you will find the extra work worth it. I think toys on the counter look nicer than the dirty dishes that always seem to cover mine. We need to get our shots

    1. Nope, I ate some of the pie and could not tell the difference between home grown pumpkin and canned pumpkin. Maybe in soup it will be noticeable.
I always have all kinds of random stuff on my kitchen island.

  2. I'm impressed with your pumpkin pie! I've never had the nerve to attempt making one from scratch. All my pumpkin pies come from Safeway. It's a family tradition, I guess. That's where all my Mom's came from too, LOL! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Pixie.

    1. Pumpkin pie has got to be one of the easiest pies to make. This is my recipe.

  3. The pie looks great! We just eat savory pumpkin stuff, roasted, stir fried, soup, that kind of thing. Maybe one day . . .

    1. I think I'll make a soup too but pumpkin pie is very tasty, and easy to make.

  4. It seems the leaves have fallen so fast for you. Our elm trees are slow to leaf but the rest now how leaves.
You aren't the only person who has thought (I'm not saying you are imagining it) they had a reaction to the latest Covid shot. I was fine.

    1. A good wind usually brings a lot of the leaves down.
I haven't had a reaction to either the covid or flu shots in the past, so I don't know if it's because I got both of them at the same time, or because of the strains in the vaccines. I've just been feeling tired, sore skin, and coughing a little. Nothing major. But I do remember the young nurses having awful reactions to the first covid vaccinations, nausea, vomiting, so sick they ended up in bed for a 24 hours.

    1. Thanks. We'll have a turkey breast tonight and it looks like it will be a lovely, sunny day.

  6. I like the variable focus in that top picture and the random ordinariness of the subject matter but are my eyes deceiving me about what is printed on that pretty mug? Great job with the pumpkin pie by the way!

    1. My middle daughter bought me that mug for Christmas a couple of years ago. She knows me so well:) Fortunately Jack can't read yet and I'm hoping the font will prevent him from reading it until he's much older.
The pie was good, but it's the whipped cream that goes on top that is the best part.

  7. I had the same thought as Sandra- when you eat that pie, you will know it had been worth all the work. Hopefully, at least.
I have toys in this house that I have got to go through and get rid of. My youngest grandchild is about to be seven! The baby toys can go now. I am a little emotionally attached.
    Just a little.

    1. Jack's not here this morning, he's with his grandma. It's strangely quiet and we miss him.
I imagine I'll have Lego in my house for years to come, I'm glad for that. I finally feel like we're a family.

  8. That pie definitely looks good enough to eat!
I had to smile at the mug ... I think a lot of us can identify with that statement! LOL
Happy Thanksgiving Day ... Canadian style!

      The pie was tasty.

  9. But how cool to say you made a pie out of your very own pumpkin!

  10. I'm afraid if I baked a pie I would use canned pumpkin. How dd it taste?

  11. I actually like the non-canned pumpkin best, but I could never say I don't like canned as well. Pumpkin is the best.

    1. It wasn't worth all the extra work. Maybe I'll make some soup with the other pumpkin.

  13. Pumpkin pie is a no-go item for me. I bought a frozen pie that needed to be cooked, and even it would not set up. So, Safeway it is. I do admire your willingness to give it a go. And I do love the coffee cup.
