Last week I made these Christmas cookies.  Every year I like to try one new recipe for Christmas and this year it was these pinwheel cookies.  I'd never made pinwheel cookies and to be honest, I always thought they were too complicated/hard to make.  Turns out I was wrong, as I am about so many things:)

On Saturday, Jack was the child from hell.  He was tired and cranky all day, yelling, throwing himself around, trying to hit the dogs, and just being a jerk.  I took him to the park Saturday morning and then we went to McDonald's for an hour and a half.  McDonald's has a play park inside where he played with other kids hard for the whole time.  I thought for sure he would sleep but no, just miserable.  When he finally fell asleep at 7pm, my husband and I just breathed a huge sigh of relief and both agreed that Gracie would not be able to cope with jerk Jack.

Yesterday we picked up Miss Katie and took her out with Jack.  We saw Santa at the mall.  He's such a kind man and comes out and gives Katie a big hug.  To say Katie loves Santa is such a huge understatement.  After lunch, which Jack wouldn't eat, he and my husband went to the play place that they have at the mall right now for Christmas; it's filled with huge lego pieces that the kids can make things with.  Katie and I went shopping and left them to it.

On the way home from dropping Katie off at her home, Jack fell asleep and finally had a good two hour nap.  It was heaven.  My husband drove to Camrose to visit his dad and I darned socks, because that's how I roll.  When Jack woke up he asked why I had a rainbow on my socks.

I watched some videos on how to darn socks because I buy expensive wool socks to keep my feet warm in winter and I'm not going to just throw them out.  The varigated wool was left over from an afghan I made.  The colours make me happy when I look at my toes.

Last night after his bath, Jack decided he was a dog.  I told him what a good boy he was and he was the sweetest little puppy dog; there was no yelling or throwing of anything.  Again, heaven.  He had a good night's sleep and was happy again this morning.

Some funny, because we all need more funny.

  1. What a relief for you and the Big Guy and, too, for Jack to get some good sleep time in, as well as, some much needed quiet time! We all needed quiet time when we had little ones around!
So true about the three year old ... I did LOL!

    1. I wish I had known that about three year olds when my middle daughter was three. She and Jack are a lot alike.

  2. Isn't it odd how the tireder they get, the more wired they get? It's an unhappy loop for sure. But I'm so glad that he became a good puppy after some sleep.

    1. It is strange at how wired he gets when over tired. I don't get wired when tired anymore, I just slow down and my brain doesn't work very well:)

  3. I'm glad you and Miss Katie had a lovely time together and that "jerk Jack" finally calmed down. They can be hard work when they're tired can't they. And I just LOVE that white van!! Pure genius!

    1. Jack can be hard to take care of. He's stubborn and smart which is a tough combination. I loved that van too:)

  4. How wonderful that Katie got to see Santa and that he was kind! Some are nice and others are just there doing a job. You already know how much I needed to read this about Jack since his behavior is mirroring that of my 2 1/2-year-old grandson. A sweet loving toddler has been turning into a throwing, biting little monster at times.

    1. We've been so lucky with Santas and they've all been so kind to her, to be fair though, they've seen her for years, not once or twice like most kids.
      Jack can be a handful.

  5. I never knew this about three year old kids. I thought that once they made it past two the parents were home free. It's good that you had some time with Katie without the bad puppy.

    1. I didn't realize there was a name for three year olds but looking back my middle daughter was the same.

    2. And thanks for the link about birds' feet. I feel better about the turkeys now.

  6. How lovely for Katie getting a hug from Santa.
You are doing a wonderful job with Jack. I shudder to think how Gracie would cope with jerk Jack. I don't think he would come out of it well.

    1. Katie gives wonderful hugs. She never used to hug but on her 21st birthday, she opened the door and gave me a hug, first one ever. Made me cry.

Yeah, Gracie can't even regulate her own emotions. I'm pretty sure she would have a meltdown while dealing with Jack and his meltdowns.

  7. Darning is becoming a forgotten craft. In my childhood, my mother darned many pairs of socks. It made them last longer and saved money - also in those days we had not yet learnt to be the careless throwaway people we are now. On her own with Jack in that cranky mood, Gracie could have easily been driven to hurt him. You had The Big Guy to share the load and also you have precious experience to guide your responses.

    1. I'm not the most patient person, the big guy is more patient, but we all survived and age has definitely made me more patient.

  8. I love the funny! I had one child and he was easy, so I'm glad he was it. Gracie could not handle that. Jack did become a good puppy, though. :)

  9. Ive never seen pinwheel cookies before but they look good. And hey, coincidence, just down the road from me is the village of Camrose in Pembrokeshire Wales. So I looked it up on Wiki and guess what it says about Camrose USA ...

There is no factual evidence about the reason for the choice of the name Camrose, but it is generally thought that it was named after the Village of Camrose in Pembrokeshire, South Wales....

Well well, who'd have thought it. There's not much in Camrose to be honest but they do have a large vintage tractor show there every year. If you look it up you'll see the area where I live

  11. The things he says just crack me up. "Why do you have a rainbow on your socks?" My mother used to make pinwheel cookies, I always liked them. They look great.

    1. The cookies are very tasty, they have crushed candycanes in them which I love. Jack cracks me up a lot too:)

  12. I love your "rainbow" socks! It's got to be frustrating dealing with "jerk Jack," but I guess that's why they call them the terrible twos. (Which extend into the threes, as I understand it.)
