Miss Katie came over for lunch today. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and she doesn't enjoy spending that much time away from her home, so I had her over for lunch. I cut her bangs, we ate grilled cheese sandwiches, and she had some ice cream, then she wanted to go home. We drove to the dog park to see some dogs and then I drove her home.
She's clapping and happy in the photo because Mr. Big (as Mr. Pudding calls him) was singing a Dutch children's song and she loves it still. It's hard to get a photo of her smiling but she's happy here.
Jack is with his his mama and grandma today so I've been busy baking pies, washing floors, and making mashed potatoes for tomorrow. We have a small turkey breast from Costco. The other day I told Jack I was looking for a small turkey to cook and he said, "A baby?"
I assured him I would not cook a baby, not even a baby turkey.
Nothing much else going on. The teachers strike continues which is causing me some stress. I am floored at how horrible, mean spirited, and short sighted our provincial government has become under Danielle Smith. Yesterday Mr. Big took Jack to the McDonald's play place for an hour because Nana needed a time out. The time out was very good and I regained my composure. I also wrote a couple of emails to politicians, telling them what I thought about the job they're doing.
If you're Canadian, have a good Thanksgiving and if you're not, have a good day.

That's a strong telegram! It's good to see Katie happy there. She must be very settled in her group home, needing to be back after a trip out with you. And I'm glad you got a break, too.
ReplyDeleteI love that telegram, although the thought of the strong letter to follow sounds frightening:)
DeleteKatie likes being at home, or rather, likes going home.
That's great about Katie, so sorry your government sucks too,
ReplyDeleteWhat is with governments these days?
DeleteI truly love the telegram, and the commentary. Strong letter to follow indeed. Our government continues to horrify me. The Vice President was on a talk show, wouldn't answer a simple question about Homans accepting a bribe, George Stephanopolous called him on his evasiveness and cut away from the VP. The magats are melting down today over this alleged disrespect. They're a bunch of snow flakes. Enjoy your Thanksgiving with the baby turkey.
ReplyDeleteThe republicans are as sensitive as peaches when the criticism is directed at them.
DeleteI will not be cooking a baby turkey, although I could scramble some eggs:)
That telegram is a classic.
ReplyDeleteI love that telegram.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you all!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young lawyer in Winnipeg just starting out, we were told of a senior lawyer in a big law firm who would stamp "Fuck You, Strong Letter To Follow" on correspondence from opposing lawyers and then return the letter to its sender. I doubt if it was true, but it made for a good story!
It's a wonderful story. And Happy Thanksgiving!
DeleteI'm writing a letter to my MLA tomorrow. Happy thanksgiving to you and yours too and that photo of Katie is very special.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving and yes, write a letter, and call and leave a message too. The more noise we make, the better.
DeleteGood for you for communicating with the government. I am astonished how cruel so many of our governments have become, in the name of "freedom."
ReplyDeleteIt's weird how these governments are preaching freedom and then overreaching into people's private lives. Fucking hypocrits.
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving. Good for you to for emailing the politicians. Your mention of the teacher's strike prompted me to do a bit of reading about Alberta politics. I wasn't aware that the Liberal Party has no seats in the provincial legislature.
ReplyDeleteThe liberal party had a moment here awhile back but Alberta is pretty much conservative, although Alberta conservative parties were never as far right as the present party and also not as vindictive.
DeleteI always forget you Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on a different day than we do. I'm glad you straightened Jack out on the notion of cooking a baby turkey.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to see Miss Katie in a happy mood.
Katie had a good time. Charlie licked her face which makes her laugh.
DeleteOur Thanksgiving is earlier because our harvests are earlier. I think all the crops are off the field now. Time to hunker down for winter:)
Hope you have a good holiday celebration.
ReplyDeleteWe had a lovely, relaxing day which included a couple of dog walks.
DeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving with your mashed potato and small Costco turkey breast. Sounds delicious but Mr Big will be saying, "Mine looks nice but where's yours?" Re. the baby turkey, this reminds me of when our Frances was little... If we were were having roasted lamb, I would tell her it was roasted daddy sheep. This ploy always worked a treat.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the turkey breast should be big enough for both of us, it weighs 4.4 lbs. If he eats that much he'll have meat sweats:)
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving! I love the photo of Katie; she has such a beaming smile. You must treasure it when it comes out. Teachers' strikes are so stressful. As a younger teacher, my district went on strike for a few days. When I went in to see my doctor, he was appalled, "What's happened to your low blood pressure??" Hope it's resolved soon. I'm glad that Jack's other grandma is giving you a much needed break.
ReplyDeleteJack was only there yesterday for a few hours.
DeleteI'm hoping the strike is over soon too, and I hope the teachers get what they need.
The baby turkey question from Jack brings back memories of so many sweet, quizzical things young children say and think over the years we're raising them. We're lucky to have had that. And you're still lucky!
ReplyDeleteChildren are so concrete, makes for interesting conversations:)
DeleteMiss Katie indeed looks Joyful. Its nice that she enjoys her Home so much that she enjoys returning after having had some outings. The Man is like that now, he always wants to go Home almost right away. Happy Thanksgiving too.
ReplyDeleteKatie loves routine and predictability. She also enjoys anticipation more than the actual event.
