The flowers are all dying. Sigh. It's that time of year.
My friend that I went to Vancouver with in July, collapsed in the shower yesterday. She managed to call her daughter in Vancouver, who then got hold of me. Her daughter called an ambulance and I drove over there. I got there in 25 minutes which was pretty good, it's a forty kilometer drive. My friend had managed to get a housecoat on and crawled into bed. She was so dizzy she couldn't move her head, which is how she ended up on the floor.
We sat and talked, waiting for the ambulance. An hour went by, no ambulance. By this time she was feeling much better. I took her blood pressure and it was fine so we decided to cancel the ambulance. It was also her birthday yesterday, so we visited some more. She called telephone triage today and the nurse thinks it was her blood pressure, so she is to monitor her blood pressure, reduce her meds, and see her doctor. She's ok.
We're in the process of watching the first season of "The Pitt". I love medical shows and this one is well done. It's set in an ER in Pittsburgh and each episode is one hour of a shift; the entire season is just one day shift in the ER. Last night there was an old man with dementia dying. His children were having a hard time letting go of him but finally decided on a natural death for the old man. Once the decision was made, they didn't know what to do so the main character told the children about a traditional Hawaiian prayer that is said when someone is dying.
Ho'oponopono is a Hawaiian word that means to make things right. It involves
1. Saying sorry- acknowledges a perceieved wrongdoing or obstacle
2. Please forgive me- asks for forgiveness, creating a safe space for resolution.
3. Thank you- expresses gratitude for the resolution that has occurred.
4. I love you- an act of love and understanding, fostering a sense of connection.
The prayer is repeated over and over.
I think this is probably a good practice to use for more than just death, and I think I'll try it out.
Otherwise not much. I switched the dogs to grain free dog food because Charlie often has diarrhea. There's no more diarrhea but he does have meat farts now.
Jack bought himself a skateboard and now considers himself a pro.
Katie is well but misses her favorite caregiver who has been off sick for awhile.
The goat rodeo continues.

I wish I could get the Pitt but it's on a streaming service I don't have. That seems to be the way with many programs I would like; they're on Brit Box, Acorn, HBO, etc. My flowers are dying too and I need to dump them in the yard waste. It's a strange feeling to do that. Nothing lives forever.
ReplyDeleteEverything I want to see is on another streaming service too. It's frustrating.
DeleteIt's always sad to see the flowers go but a relief as well. Having a winter means I look forward to spring and summer even more.
Passing out in the shower is bad, too many hard objects upon which to hit the head. Hope she's better and stays better. You were good to drive over there. I read somewhere that the estate of the original ER is claiming that The PItt is a sequel and they want part of the proceeds. Seems greedy to me.
ReplyDeleteShe's thinking about redoing her bathroom and I suggest a stool to sit on and some grab bars in the shower. She thought that was a good idea.
DeleteApparently other people think they have the right to things, even if they don't. Is it because Noah Wylie is in it I wonder.
And you are such an excellent friend. I hope she is OK and stays that way. If I were ill, I would want you in my corner!
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret.
DeleteThank goodness you were able to get to your friend so quickly. Even if she got better later I'm glad she's going to follow up with her doctor. You're a great friend!
ReplyDeleteShe talked to a nurse and is going to follow up with her doc.
DeleteHope your friend is better, if possible. I feel for you also because of Charlie's condition. We once lived for a while with a relative who had a great Dane suffering from anxiety which was expressed in farts - mostly - and always when the someone was coming to the house and as there was a small business attached to the house there was a lot of coming and going.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. I never hear the farts but OMG I can sure smell them now:)
DeleteHaving experienced a couple of blood pressure faints, that is what it seems like your friend suffered from. For me, they quickly passed.
ReplyDeleteIt did pass, but she has the added problem of is it related to the cancer, or just her blood pressure.
DeleteAre ambulance times like that normal? That's awful. I'm glad it worked out that she didn't need it but what if she had? Not everyone has a dear nurse friend.
ReplyDeleteAn ambulance time like that is not normal but our provincial government fucks around with everything so much, trying to destroy our public health care system, that this is what we're left with.
DeleteWow, that ambulance time is not a good thing. I've had a couple of episodes like that over the years. I never thought about blood pressure, Now I will if it happens again. I would like to see the young pro doing his thing!
ReplyDeleteBlood pressure can fluctuate and she's on meds for her high blood pressure, but is not well followed by her doctor.
DeleteHe and his poppa went to the skate park this morning so I imagine there is a pro contract in the works somewhere:)
Pixie said what I was going to say xx
DeleteYour friend is so lucky to have you. I'm glad she's all right.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she's all right too. The added bonus was I got to see her on her birthday.
DeleteI don't think we get "The Pitt" here. I remember reading that someone associated with "ER" asserted that it's a ripoff of that earlier show, and I gotta say, based on your description, it sounds pretty similar!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad your friend is ok after falling in the shower. Scary episode. My son loved The Pitt. I shall have to try it. Jack the skateboarder!
