My girlfriend and I went to a greenhouse yesterday and we had so much fun.  We hadn't seen each other in person since last fall I think.  We've known each other for thirty-three years and even if we haven't seen each other in awhile, we just start up the conversation where it was left off.  Her husband died three years ago and that woman is happy as a clam to be living alone.  We walked into the greenhouse laughing and giggling like two school girls and spent three hours there, looking at every single plant.  We stopped for a quick lunch and then went right back at it.  It was good for my soul.  We even talked about going out to Vancouver this summer to visit our respective children.  We'll see.

It's been a busy week, pottery twice, yard work, another retaining wall built.  I'm getting good at building them and operating the power tools required to build them.  I have a fondness for power tools.  I'm not the strongest woman physically, so power tools are wonderful and make the work much easier.

Jack is doing well thankfully.  He's outside everyday and so much happier.  No video games or computer time and what a difference, (even though it's only half an hour a day).  He woke up this morning because "My eyes are hot!".  I had no idea what to do about that.  I did manage to get him back into bed, but it didn't take, and he was up about 5:30am.  He was also irritated with me because I couldn't offer any remedies for the "hot eyes".  For the most part though, happy, eating well, no sass, no tantrums.  He started swimming lessons again this week, but they're after supper and he did well.  He was concerned because I brought pyjamas for him to get into after the lessons were over.  What would the other kids think?  I assured him that other kids would be wearing their pyjamas and sure enough, one of the girls from his daycare is also in lessons, and was also wearing her jammies home.

Summer, or I guess still spring, just feels so easy.  No ice or snow.  It's light out after supper.  We sit on the deck and Jack plays in the back yard.  The windows are open and I can hear the birds outside.  The days are long and full of light.  It's the six months of light surrounding the summer solstice.

Today I have an exciting day planned.  Wash the dog blankets, vacuum and wash the floors, walk the dogs, and work in the garden.  Even though I'm not a fan of housework, I do like a clean house, so needs must.

  1. A pinion!

I wonder if Jack has allergies. I used to have seasonal allergies that affected my eyes. "Hot eyes" is a good way of describing eyes affected by allergies. I had allergy shots as an adult but was miserable as a child. Fortunately I have only minimal allergy symptoms now.

Love the photograph. Flowers are mandalas (-:

    1. I just googles hot eyes and found the same thing, stinging or burning eyes, caused by allergies. I never even thought of that. Thank you:)

  2. One of my grandsons was experiencing pain in a sensitive part of his body which he did not want to show his mother but he insisted that she LOOK IT UP! JUST LOOK IT UP! meaning to google it but without seeing what he was talking about she just didn't know what to look for. Still, he kept telling her that all she had to do was look it up! Children are being raised in a different era, aren't they?
I love the idea of you going out with your girlfriend and looking at plants. What a beautiful way to spend a day!

    1. We had so much fun, it was ridiculous, and we're planning a road trip now. Fingers crossed.

I also googled hot eyes, and as Amanda said above, stinging and burning eyes is probably what he meant. I'll give him an antihistamine tonight before bed, poor guy.

  3. You're so right! The 6 months of Spring, Summer and Autumn are the best part of the year in Canada! We've got to enjoy them while they last!

    1. I think Edmontonians enjoy summer even more because of it's brevity.

  4. It sounds like you're filling your retirement with outings and projects and that's wonderful! I can never go into a nursery without buying a bunch of plants so I'm staying out of them until it's time to get my annuals. I'm delighted that Jack is doing so well and that the light and being active outdoors and at swimming are so positive for everyone. Did you ever figure out the "hot eyes?"

    1. Of course I bought plants. It's too early to plant them yet, but very soon. I bought some petunias called "Pretty Much Picasso", they're so pretty.

      Hot eyes, probably allergies.

  5. Ah. My thought was chlorine from the swimming lessons. You'll have to let us know if the antihistamine does the trick.

    1. Jack wears swim goggles because the pool water bothers his eyes. I gave him an antihistamine last night and hopefully that helped.

  6. It's nice to have a catch up with someone who is fun and easy to get along with, and with who you have a lot of shared history.
Where I live in southern Australia, we have ravens. In the northern part of the country, there are crows. I wonder where the border is.

    1. We have ravens in the north and the mountains, but crows here. Not sure what the border is here either. I just looked it up, ravens used to live here but they were hunted and destroyed. Humans suck.

  7. Nice to hear that Jack is in a pretty calm phase. The more that happens the more it will surely seem like the established norm.

    1. I'm not always loving, I can also be bitchy, judgemental, overtired, and overstimulated. I try to make sure he knows I love him though, no matter what.

  10. I like cleaning the house when I can open it up and let it air out and dry. Hot eyes?! That's an interesting complaint.

    1. The hot eyes had me stumped until people suggested burning eyes, makes sense.

  12. We are entering shorter days here - I was driving at 5:30 this morning and it was so dark outside - in Summer that is when I come back from my morning walk!
