An old building left behind in Bankhead in 1922, the lamp building.

The winner of this weeks how many times will I fall, goes to Sabine.  She said things come in threes and she was right.  I slipped and fell again this morning on the tiniest patch of snow where Charlie pooped.  I hurt my left wrist and hip, just to mix it up a little, nothing broken though.

I am getting nervous about walking though.  I went home and licked my wounds, did some cooking and laundry and then tried again with a different dog.  No falling but I worry about falling now.

Nothing much going on right now.  Jack is in code ninja camp again for the week while school has fall break.  I'm crocheting an afghan for my husband's aunt in the evenings, no pattern so it's easy to do and keeps my hands busy.  The last two days of pottery are next week, only glazing to be done.  I was sad that I wouldn't be seeing much of them, so asked if anybody was interested in a book club.  They were all interested, so we'll also be having a book club.  The first book chosen is "The Briar Club" by Kate Quinn, and how did I not know that this was the same author that wrote "The Alice Network",  "The Rose Code" and "The Huntress"?  Should be a good read.

  1. Maybe yaktrax are in your future? I don't like to think of you nervous about falling.

    1. There was no snow anywhere, except in the shade, on the grass, and that's where Charlie pooped.

  2. Darn Pixie. That’s really too bad you fell again. The only positive thing I can say is you must have great bone density. Thank goodness!

    1. I'm thankful for all the weight lifting I did in my 20's and 30's,

  3. I'm sorry you have to worry about falling, but I'm also glad you haven't broken anything. Take care!

  4. Like Boud mentioned I have yaktrax but have never used them. Maybe it's time to get them out because I'm becoming scared of falling too! I'm so sorry you fell again but glad (at least) that you didn't break anything!

  5. Jack is away for a week. That gives you a nice break.
I hope you didn't land in Charlie's poop. You took no notice of my advice to be more careful.
Book clubs can be good, but I've also heard that they can become fractious at times. Give it a go and see how it works out.

    1. It's a lovely group of ladies, all but two of us widows. We'll see how it goes.

  6. I use cleats/yaktrax all the time in the winter; they are truly a game changer. You will feel so much more secure and confident. Like snow tires for your feet!

    1. There was no snow on the ground where I was walking, just a small patch on the grass where Charlie pooped.

  7. I worry about falling too - not in everyday situations, but last week I walked up a big mountain in Wales and found myself stumbling and slipping when years ago I know I would not have. It doesn't help that my little dog is so nimble and seems to jump everywhere with ease! Oh well...

    1. I'm scared now of hiking paths and river banks, in a way that I never was before. I wonder if old mountain goats get nervous:)

  8. Outch, I am so sorry but I only warned you, didn't mean to predict. Take good care and maybe get crampons? Hope you'll be sore free soon.

    1. I had to laugh to myself when I went down for the third time! I have ice cleats but there was no snow or ice anywhere, except for where Charlie pooped:)

  9. Good Lord! Well, you certainly are a lucky faller. I guess?
The salmonella thing reminds me of what our parents used to tell us about swimming right after we ate- that we'd get cramps and drown. WTF? Has anyone ever done that?

    1. I've eaten raw eggs and flour (aka cookie dough) my whole life, and will continue to. I remember my parents telling me to wait before I swam too:)

  10. Are you falling because of the ice? Do you have those Yak Trax? They would be hard to walk in for any length of time though. :( That's great news about the Book Club. Mine read "The Briar Club" and liked it although I was gone that month camping so I didn't read it.

    1. I've fallen because of ice, snow, mud, and this morning, a piece of concrete randomly sitting on the grass near the exit of the field. Fortunately I only tripped this morning on the concrete and caught myself on the fence. I was so mad, I threw the piece of concrete in the garbage can!

  11. Well, if things happen in threes, I hope you can relax knowing you won't fall again! I sure hope you don't fall again, anyway.

  12. I wonder if you just need some new shoes, with better tread? Would that help?

    1. My shoes and boots all have excellent treads. Don't know what the problem is.

  13. When it happens to me I blame gravity. Totally underestimated risk factor.

  14. When I was a teenager I had permanently skinned knees because of tripping and falling so often. Turns out it was eyesight related. But I agree with Sabine - gravity sucks!

  15. Another fall? Good heavens woman - this must stop - immediately! Perhaps Mr Big should accompany you whenever you step outside the house. Link arms with him and you will be okay.
