My son visited Jack again this past weekend. He's trying. He still has miles to go, but he's taken a first step.
We're in for a heatwave this week. Yay. Sleeping in the basement this week.
I went to Service Canada this morning to submit Jack's passport paperwork. The guarantor for his passport photos forgot to put her entire birthdate on the application. Next appointment is in a month, but I know all the paperwork is correct at least which is good. I hate filling in forms.
Still no word on a teacher's strike yet. Some people think they will allow children to get settled into school and then walk out. I fully support the teachers. Class sizes have increased and the complexity of the children's needs has also risen. Our provincial government has encouraged migration to our province but isn't willing to provide increased funding for health and education to address the increased population size.
I signed up to be an official canvasser. I will be canvassing for signatures to allow a petition to be put forward as a referendum question. "Do you want Alberta to remain a part of Canada?" Makes my head hurt that we even have to do this, but I will do the work required. Our premier has fomented a lot of nasty ideas, separation, book banning, interfering with trans gender people's lives, rascim, and chemtrails. WTF. She's a piece of work, kind of like trump and his ilk.
I took the dogs for a walk this morning, they're trying to recover now in the shade. I've got laundry hanging on the line which means my bed will smell wonderful. Roomba will sweep up all the dog and cat hair, and I'm going to go work on staining parts of our new shed.
Jack starts grade one on Thursday:)
Lucky you-- a basement well-enough organized to be slept in!
ReplyDeleteI take it that your basement is not well organized:) There was a finished basement when we moved in, complete with a bedroom and bathroom, just needed to be cleaned and repainted.
DeleteIt's hot here, forecast to be 98F (36.6C) today. I have had enough summer, thank you. Spokane used to be cooler, but now it's not. Good luck with the first day of school, I hope Jack likes it.
ReplyDeleteI think Jack is looking forward to it, and slightly nervous as well. He knows at least half of the kids, and apparently the teacher is a wonderful person.
Deletelol did I say news, I meant homework. Sorry it's so hot there. Nice that you have a basement to sleep in. Nice and cool there, I hope. Cheers, Ivy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivy. I'm very thankful for a cold basement. Not looking forward to the homework, or getting back into a routine.
DeleteI remember times of sleeping on the porch when the house was just too hot. Nice to have an option. I hope the paperwork goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteThe paperwork is all good now, just have to return with the birthdate filled in, and I did that this morning after I left the passport office, my neighbor called me and gave me the rest of the birthday. She had only filled in the year:)
DeleteWe're having a late summer heat wave as well, looking fwd to fall. Hope the 1st day of school goes well. What is it with people like your premier and our MAGATS, chemtrails? Really? Do these people understand that they are just condensed water vapor from the passage of an aircraft at high altitude and that the only way they can be stopped is to eliminate all commercial, military, and business aircraft? This just makes my head hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh but don't ya know that there is reliable information on the interweb that says that chem trails are responsible for every bad thing in the world today? I know. It's beyond understanding, and beyond argument. Facts don't change their minds.
DeleteJohn, who retired from Boeing, says that of course there are some chemicals in the vapor; it is an airplane running on fuel after all and not on electricity or solar power. But it's negligible. Why are people so worried about it yet love the very polluting gas car engines? The logic escapes me. I never think of Canadians being like Trump; that's discouraging. I'm glad your son is trying and hope that Jack is reacting well to it. I would hate to see him disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThere is no logic, just beliefs based on made up shit, same thing humans have been doing forever, if they don't understand something, they make it up.
DeleteSadly, there are some right wing bigots in Alberta, makes me feel sick.
Starting Frida we are going to have a few days at least of blessedly cooler weather. Glen is leaving to come up your way on Saturday. Well, I think he gets there Sunday. He's going to drive to Nashville, Tennessee and fly from there to save a bunch of money. He's not that happy about the weather forecast there.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Alberta was thinking of breaking away from Canada. How does that work? Would it be it's own country? How weird. Let us hope the sickness which has taken over the US has not spread to dangerous levels there.
I am glad to hear that Jack's father is at least trying. That is good.
Is he coming up for hunting? Doesn't he like the heat:)
DeleteThere is a small minority of Albertans that think that Alberta should break away from Canada. They think that all their problems will be solved. LOL. Even if more than 50% of Albertans voted to separate, it would still take decades to work things out. Indigenous people in Alberta have Treaty rights with the Federal government and from what I understand, that would take precedence and I doubt they would want to separate from Canada? Then there is the matter of the Constitution, the money, the army, the police (most of our police in rural communities is Federal), no more transfer payments, no more health payments, blah, blah, blah. It's foolishness that our Premier is stirring up to take the focus off of her government corruption.
Good luck with the weather and Jack going back to school. That sucks that Alberta’s government is bad too. 😕 ❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks. It does suck that the Alberta government sucks.
